“Worth a trip to Maquoketa, IA just to stay at the Decker Hotel. Charming, historic property at reasonable rates. Serve yourself breakfast was minimal but understandable given the cost. The faithful restoration lets you go back in time while still having modern comforts like central air and updated bathroom. We would go back.”

“Only complaint was the smoking in the casino”

“Our room had a leak from the upstairs unit over our unit over the toilet. My husband is a plumber and he knew it was a leak from the toilet upstairs and it was from dirty toilet water cause it leaked whenever they used the toilet. We were unable to move rooms as the hotel was booked. There was nothing they could do. They said they could look into a credit however when I attempted to talk to them again they didn't help. The continental breakfast was non existent. Try to talk to the desk assistant……

“Over all the hotel was fine. Location is nice. The worst part of the experience was not having clean sheets. Upon arrival the bed sheets bad a brown stain on them. Staff were nice and made it right, so thank you to them. ”

“The television doesn’t get the local channels ABC, CBS and NBC the bed was very hard and comfortable. The pillows were flat ruff nights sleep and when we woke in the morning they serve breakfast from 6 to 10 AM. We arrived at 8 AM. They had no eggs and said that one person ate all the eggs, and what they had left was only frozen sorry I will be calling corporate to tell them of the conditions of this particular hotel.”

“Booked thru Expedia at right under $200/2 nights. Check-in-went very smooth. The first room was dirty & this type of neglect is on purpose; to allow anyone but a cleaner to enter it, was offensive. There were spiders in the bathtub, questionable stains on pillow cases, walls, and curtains, dirt/dust gathered throughout. The beds were very much soiled, can’t remember if they had mattress covers. Very nice bedside lights, with addtl light for night reading (good idea), if you could muster the guts……

“Changed room twice. 1st due to a beeping smoke alarm. 2nd due to a non working toilet. 3rd room had an air conditioning problem, but we stayed in it anyways.”

“Staff was friendly and welcoming. Basically pretty clean, except for refrigerator ~ something had been spilled by previous occupants and had not been cleaned by housekeeping. Breakfast was good - decaf coffee was barely warm - some items had been cleaned out by the early leaving guests and not replenished.”

“We chose this place as a last minute one night stay. That being the case it was OK. It had almost equal points on the OK and Good side. On the good side, our room looked to be recently renovated. The paint, fixtures, bed, etc all seemed to have been done recently. There were however a few things that were missing, There was an ironing board but no iron, no hair dryer though it was mentioned as an amenity, and a light bulb was missing from the vanity light fixture. “The house was beautiful and the views were the best. We also rented the house right down the street so all our out of town and out of state families coming in town for our father’s funeral could be all together and it worked out perfectly.”

I was concerned that the neighborood on the dock might be a whoop-it-up loud all-night-long kind of party crowd (and I am VERY boring), but everyone was going-out-of-their way charming and kind. Overall - it was lovely. Highly recommend it. Perfect getaway. ”

“If you are thinking about booking this property over a motel in Clinton or in the area, just do it! Frank was great to work with and super nice guy! After the events we went to all day it was nice to come back and relax on the comfortable couch watching tv and then go to bed. This VRBO is newly built and really clean and quiet and you can have your morning coffee out on the deck with a view of the Mississippi. There is also a pickleball court right outside your door if you are into that. It was……

“Everything about Charlie’s on the Water was perfect. There was abundant supplies of towels and soap. Very comfortable furnishings made for a relaxing visit to Sabula. I highly recommend Charlie’s on the Water.”

“The owners of this Boatel have clearly taken great pains to think of everything you might need for your stay. They are very helpful and communicative which was very appreciated. My girls had never been on this type of boat before and had a blast. There is plenty to do in the area and we found this to be a great landing spot for hiking in the state park or shopping in Bellevue or Savannah. ”
